Bipasha excited about Aa Dekhen Zara’s multiplex release

Bipasha Basu is excited that Eros International has finally re release their last venture Aa Dekhen Zara once again across multiplexes on June 12. The film re-release across 170 screens all over India.

It may be recalled, Aa Dekhen Zara fell prey to the recent strike between producers and multiplexes and did not get showcased in national multiplex chains and could be released only on single screens. “I am happy that the film is getting re-released. We did not get a good release at that time since we had to release in single screens only. There has been a dearth for the last one and half month. I am glad not only for our film but all the films that are releasing now. I hope they all do well since recession has it the industry I think we all need the films to do well.”

With all the big banner films releasing will Aa Dekhe Zara stand a chance at the theatres we ask her. “Well one has to be positive and we are releasing it immediately so I don’t think there’s any competition now. I am keeping my fingers crossed and am trying to be positive” says Bipasha.

Bipasha has just finished shooting for Rohit Shetty’s All The Best in Goa. She further reveals, “We will be shooting one more schedule in Cape Town after which the film will be complete. It has been fun with the entire team Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen. Rohit is a great director. I am really looking forward to it since it’s my first full-fledged comedy.”

Movie Review: Kirkit (2009)

Kitkit+Cricket = Kirkit: Amateurish Crap

Rating: 1 out of 5*

Starring: Jackie Shroff, Sayali Bhagat, Sanjay Kapoor, Johhny Lever and Gulshan Grover

Director: Shashi Preetam

Five spoilt rich brats come to Goa on a holiday from Mumbai. Their sole aim is to enjoy girls and alcohol which they assume one gets in abundance in Goa. They end up having clashes with another group of boys from Hyderabad who are very hot headed. If they think that was their last encounter together, they have more clashes as they end up landing in the same hotel wherein only a single room is available for both of them. Now when that matter gets resolved, they end up having a fight over the same girl in the hotel night club. Frustrated by their constant skirmishes the two groups then decide amongst them that to settle the matter for once and all between them as to who is the real winner, they will have a deciding cricket match. Their two cocky hotel managers played by Sanjay Kapoor and Gulshan Grover come to know of it and taking advantage of this situation they decide to turn it around into a money making business. They arrange the match on a larger scale and also invite their hotel owner (Jackie Shroff) and his blonde assistant as the chief guest. So there we have a match between the two teams aptly titled Mumbai Vada Pavs and Hyderabadi Biryani. How a smart Sayali Bhagat decides to exploit this situation further and what more complications it all leads to forms the rest of the film.

From the first frame of the film itself you are sure that the film ahead is going to be one helluva amateurish attempt at filmmaking. Corny one-liners, toilet humour, double innuendo jokes galore you name it you have it all. Pray why do they have to show five dudes pissing, so elaborately?

Technically not a single department is worth a mention. Characterisations full of cliché, lack of imaginative screenplay, trivial matters given more importance makes one difficult to sit through the entire film. All the team members of both teams are newcomer boys who simply lack any acting skills. They haven’t been presented well either.

We wonder what made Jackie Shroff, Sayali Bhagat and Sanjay Kapoor sign such an embarrassing affair. May be lack of good offers perhaps Our sincere request, don’t commit the mistake the above mentioned names have committed and stay miles away from this one even on Home Video.

Shreyas’ phone stolen while he was interviewing co-actors

Shreyas Talpade got a bit more trouble than he bargained for while shooting for Paritosh Painter’s Paying Guest.

He was shooting for the Making of Paying Guest, in which he had to shoot his co-stars’ interviews. After he finished Celina Jaitley’s interview and had to interview the next one, he realized his cell phone was missing! He looked for the phone all over the sets and was getting paranoid about losing it, when lightning struck and he called used one of his colleagues’ cell and called his phone. He found it hidden in an obscure corner and it was after he found it that he came to know that it was Celina who hid the phone. And guess what, everyone else knew about the prankster side of Celina. Guess Shreyas will have to be a little more careful about his cell phone now.

We are talking about the actor of Yeh Rishta Kya Khelta Hai, Karan Mehra who gave his first sizzling performance on the night of Star Parivaar Awards 2009. He dance with his on screen partner Akshra (Heena Khan).

“It was a good experience as was my first stage performance. Heena was partners and we danced on two acts,” says Karan.

Elaborating on his performance the actor quips, “Our performance on the song Geenda Phool was nice but in this I did not have any great movements. Next act was on the song of Marjani from Billu.”

“That was a nice act as there were many movements and I enjoyed dancing on the tune of the same. I have always seen this award at home but this time I am the part of the parivaar. It really makes me feel good,” he concludes.

Well in the show too he is getting married soon and feels like sasural is geenda phool…

A Word With Boothnath fame director Vivek Sharma

Boothnath fame director Vivek Sharma has crossed his fingers for his next flick ‘Kal kisne dekha hai’. After the multiplex strike ends, this is his first film releasing on coming Friday. “I am excited and equally nervous. But as it is coming after a long strike and is commercially larger than life film, audience will like it. We got to know that the advance booking is in full-swing”, shares Vivek. There are other films that are releasing at or around the time of KKDH. “All the films that are releasing around this time are of different genres. One is Serious, another is complete entertainer and KKDH is a college film. So I think all the films will get their space and will commercially do well”, he puts in plain words.

In his very first film, Vivek has worked with biggies like SRK and Amitabh Bachchan, and now he is launching Vasu Bhagnani’s son Jackky Bhagnani and a new girl Vaishali Desai. “Film is about a guy who leaves his hometown in Chandigarh and comes to Mumbai to study in one of the elite colleges. He has a super natural power to see future, more like a fortune-teller. So it needed a fresh face. I’m a man who goes by the script. I purely believe in creative aspects and not the stars”, elucidates the director.

Rachana Shah who is playing Yana in the film recalls, “I did lot of training to get the stunts right. Training was fun where I lost 8 to 10 KGs. But when it was actually being shot I was asked to perform on the 6-7 inches high heels owing to my taller co-actors. It was tough for me but eventually it’s looking graceful.”

With his experiment with fresh faces Vivek will again bounce back with biggies. After Agnipath he will bring Amitabh Bachchan and Mithun Da together in `Buddham Sharanam Gachchami’. “This film deals with violence. It will definitely take the Indian cinema to another level” he briefs about his ambitious project. He is also trying to cast SRK in the same movie.

Fate is for those too weak to determine their own destiny and Vivek is certainly not the one.

My Shahid-Genelia film has been completed well within budget: Ken Ghosh

Despite all the negativity and controversy surrounding the making of his Shahid Kapoor and Genelia D’Souza starrer, director Ken Ghosh has wrapped up principal shooting of his yet untitled film (no, it is not called ‘Yahoo’). There was a breeding controversy when Jiah Khan was replaced by Genelia D’Souza while later it was also insinuated that Shahid wanted his ‘good friend’ Priyanka Chopra in the film instead of Genelia and hence was giving cold vibes to the latter at the sets during the filming.

“Well, I wish to meet them all who were spreading such rumours because the fact remains that we have finished the film in a super fast manner”, says Ken Ghosh in an elated tone hours after announcing pack up, “In fact we have finished the film ahead of schedule. We had planned 35 days for the filming and we wrapped it up four days earlier by bringing the principal shooting to a close in 31 days flat.”

He denies another allegation that the film went over budget due to leading lady being replaced.

“Nothing of that sort, we are pretty much within budget”, Ken quashes another rumour, “In any case filming is just a part of movie making. There is pre-production, post production and promotion planned as well. Ultimately everything does get adjusted even if we had to shoot for a few extra days.”

How about another rumour floating around that Shahid wanted certain reaction shots of his (which were earlier captured with Jiah in picture) to be re-shot as he wanted to lend further authenticity with Genelia coming into picture?

“Some people’s intelligence level when it comes to making movies amazes me”, mocks Ken, “Isn’t it in any case a bare minimum requirement to re-do reaction shots as well when an entire scene has changed?”

He goes on to elaborate the situation, “I would have said this for umpteenth number of times that Genelia replacing Jiah wasn’t just about an actor being changed. It was mainly due to character change which means that the scenes were re-written as well. In such a scenario, it is but natural that everything that has to be captured on camera is redone. You can’t imagine saving money just for the sake of it by retaining reaction shots, can you?”

After all the hard work came the wrap up party.

“Yes, UTV Motion Pictures (producers of the film) threw a party at Bling (in Leela Hotel) on Tuesday night. We had a gala time since our entire team had come together with the purpose of completing this film in spite of all the challenges that came our way. I would be off to Macau now for IIFA this weekend and once I am back, it would be back to the post production grill”, Ken reveals his plans here.

When do we expect the film to be out?

“Our first copy should be out around October or November. Then based on the release of ‘Kaminey’ and Yash Raj Hilms’ ‘Hadippa’ (working title), we would take a call on our film. It could be late this year or early 2010″, signs off Ken.

Sunny deol Waiting For a Hit

It has been two years since Sunny Deol was last seen on the big screen in a worthwhile role. The film was ‘Apne’ (2007) which was a box office success. Since then he has been seen in supporting roles in ‘Kaafila’ (2007) and ‘Heroes’ (2008) but hasn’t been able to regain his lost glory. Now he would be making a comeback with ‘Fox’, the shooting of which finally wrapped up a fortnight back and is now aiming for release before year end.

Director Deepak Tijori is ecstatic that his multi starrer finally gets into the post production.

“My magnum opus is finally ready”, says Tijori in light humour while obviously hinting at the slight delay that this multi crore film has seen during last few months, “Just one week’s worth of work was left otherwise the film would have been ready around six months back.”

With the principal shooting for ‘Fox’ coming to an end, what happens next?

“The film of this stature requires an intense and extended post production”, Tijori says, “It should take anywhere near three months. We should in all likelihood bring our film in the last quarter of 2009.”

Well, Sunny fans would certainly be wishing that this indeed happens as they have been starved of a film starring him in a major role for quite a while now. Prior to ‘Apne’ (which also starred Dharmendra and Bobby Deol), his last major money spinner was ‘The Hero’ (2003). Ever since then he has acted in quite a few films in a solo lead but none of them has been able to make an impact.

Whether it is ‘Fool N Final’, ‘Big Brother’, ‘Naksha’, ‘Teesri Aankh - The Hidden Camera’, ‘Jo Bole So Nihaal’, ‘Lakeer’, ‘Khel’ or ‘Jaal - The Trap’, all of which released between ‘Apne’ and ‘The Hero’, each of them has been a disappointment for both Sunny Deol and his fans. Now one waits, watches and hopes that with Deepak Tijori directed ‘The Fox’, Sunny Deol finally makes a worthy comeback at the box office and wins his fans all over again.

‘Fox’ is a modern sleek thriller shot in the exotic locales of Goa and Mumbai. It is a story about a cat and mouse chase between a young successful criminal lawyer (Arjun Rampal) and a mysterious stranger who is controlling and threatening his life. Now the lawyer must seek the help of a reluctant cop (Sunny Deol) in solving the mystery.

Talking about the celebrity contestants in the show our khabroo adds, “For now two names have been surfaced of Monica Bedi and Sambhavana Seth. Though nothing has been finalised. The production is still on the stage of finalising things.”

Contestants of the reality TV show "Survivor" and its various franchises are usually isolated in a remote location where they compete against each other for $1 million prize and title of Sole Survivor.

They must fend for food, water, fire, and shelter for themselves while competing in challenges to earn rewards and immunity from being voted off.

“Similarly 10 celebrities will be in jungle fighting for their survival. They are thinking on the development of the reality show. One has to wait till next month to know what the truth is,” concludes the source.

Rani Mukherjee time over

How many of us remember the memorable songs from “Kuchh Kuchh Hota hai”? Rani Mukherjee prancing around in short skirts and trendy bags..with moves ala Zeenat Aman. She had arrived. Guys wanted her, girls wanted to be like her. Just around the corner was a cute, effervescent girl…with a dimpled smile..no prizes for guessing that one. It was Preity Zinta. Whether it was her charm in Kal Ho Na Ho or her portrayal of a neurotic girl in Armaan, she charmed the hearts of millions of Indians…that alas was many moons ago.

Cut to circa 2008 – 09. Enter Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif. These girls have taken the country and the film industry by storm. While Priyanka is everyone’s favourite “Desi Girl” Sonam has become the new “Masakalli” of the Indian junta. Katrina has not only managed to become the “it” girl with the filmwallas but also rules in the brand endorsement market. Every brand wants her pretty face to say how good their products are. Om Shanti Om capitulated Deepika into the superstar status overnight. It’s a dream for any new girl to be launched by with SRK and this girl lived to tell the tale. Good films fell into her kitty more easily than for anyone else. From a Yashraj banner to an Imtiaz Ali film, it’s been a dream-like ride for a girl who till very recently was walking the ramps in fashion week as one of the many models.

Which brings us to think…what happened to the likes of Rani, Preity n company? Perhaps this question is best answered by taking a look at the market dynamics of the Film industry. Any industry is a reflection of the times we live in and the film industry is no different. Today’s mantra is “what’s next”. With more than 50 % of our population being under 30,we are catering to an essentially restless, fast paced creature whose tastes are young and changing at a rapid pace. This explains the reason why turnaround time for our leading ladies is becoming shorter with each passing decade. I wont even go to explaining the reasons why of Madhubala, Nargis and the likes ruled the industry for as long as they did because that’s like a whole generation away. Let’s look at starting from the 80s, actresses like Hema Malini and Dimple Kapadia ruled the roost for many many years. In spite of being married with kids they managed to be at top for over a decade, getting plum roles and more plum pay packets. They were followed by Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla, who for the longest time were the queen bees. They faded away much later than today’s leading ladies. In today’s times, you’re lucky if people want you 5 years hence.

One of the most important reasons from the film industry’s perspective is that a film will almost never get sold on the basis of an actress. Sad but true. A film till today is essentially a “hero” driven vehicle, though there have been exceptions to this rule like a “Black” but that’s what they remain, an exception. Junta still wants to see a Shah Rukh Khan or an Aamir Khan film. I have my doubts if they will ever see a film which will have a Deepika starring with a “nobody”. I highly doubt it. With the scheme of things in the industry, an actress is the most easily replaceable. Actors are the one’s who will always be finalised first and then the actresses and if a scenario happens where one is not available, the other one can fit her shoes just as easily. It’s ironic because on one hand we have a young population who is fairly well versed with Hollywood where actresses are almost equals to their male counterparts. They have roles written for them like a Lara Croft which goes on to become huge blockbusters but the story back home is yet to change. We are yet to see a desi version of Lara Croft or even something like The Reader. The main reason being that films with powerful female leads with “not-so-big” male actors just haven’t found acceptance with the Indian audiences and therefore it’s extremely difficult to sell such a film. We still want to see our heroes, fighting, emoting and dancing with the pretty ones but I don’t if they will accept things the other way round.

With multiple options being the mantra of the day, its no surprise that there are so many actresses in the marquee and they keep changing before you blink an eyelid. Well, all I can say is “make hay while the sun shine” ladies because you never know when the sun goes down on you.

Mohan-Bhakti To be seen Again

Another most loved couple of Indian television Mohan-Bhakti from the show Hamari Devari sizzled in the Star Parivaar Awards this year. They left everyone spellbound with their rasleela act on stage.

“We performed on song Woh Kisna Hai… from the film Kisna. It was nice but the schedule was too hectic. There was also co-ordination problems between us,” says Krishna aka Bhakti.

Talking about their synchronization, the actress briefs that, “Actually I have put on lots of weight and was told to loose till the awards. Though I was hitting gym regularly but still body takes time to shed the extra kilos and this created some difficulty.”

As mentioned it was their fourth act, things turned out to be knotty. “It’s been very uptight with the shoot of the show and the rehearsals for the award function. The dance was also difficult but I heard it stand out to be one of the best in the show. If this is the case then I would like to thank god that our hard work has been paid off,” she adds.

When asked about how Madhav as a dance is, Krisha chirped, “He is a pretty good dancer and I enjoyed dancing with him.”

If the buzz is to be believed Madhav-Krishna (Mohan-Bhakti) are off screen couple too. “The act came out to be a good one and that’s because of their off screen chemistry. The duos are very much in love and it could be seen during the award function too. They came together and could not take off their eyes from each other,” adds a source close to the duo.

Mohan-Bhakti rasleela has been talk of the tele world. Don’t know why they are keeping their relationship under the rap. But how long will they be able to do it.

So viewers gear up for the star studded 7th STAR Parivaar Awards 2009 at 8pm on June 13th 2009 on STAR Plus.

Govinda-Riteish to perform together at IIFA-2009

David Dhawan is a very happy man. And it’s not only because he’s making back-to-back movies, AND judging a reality show Hans Baliye during the time of recession.

Cast members of David’s latest directorial offering Do Knot Disturb are going to IIFA. “Now that the strike (of new releases in multiplexes) is over Govinda and Riteish Deshmukh who are in the film will be performing live at IIFA.”

David heading to Macau with his wife and images from Do Knot Disturb to be shown at the event.

David also intends to do a music video featuring the entire cast of Do Knot Disturb. “I want Sushmita, Lara, Sohail, Riteish and Govinda. We want to promote Do Knot Disturb in a big way and release around Eid.”

This being David’s first film with producer Vashu Bhagnani in years, David is naturally very concerned. “It has to go right. I’m very happy with the film. The strike ended at just the right time. There was hardly any shooting going on. Media persons had nothing to write so they were making up stories.”
