Mallika Sherawat gets addicted to Twitter

Bollywood hottie Mallika Sherawat was in Hollywood town Los Angeles to finish her work on the serpent movie Hissss. Having been put there for a long time, it seems Mallika began missing Mumbai and her Mumbai friends. This perhaps resulted in her getting addicted to social networking fad, Twitter.

She is become a Tweeter, that’s the name used for those who post SMS-sized messages on the twitter.com site. Mallika’s feed is called twitter.com/mallikaLA. The last two initials indicate where she is and so she might as well stop after returning next month. If one logs (its free) on to her twitter id, one can see she has been consistently blasting away messages sending them from her computer and from her mobile phone.

If you are wondering what is she talking about well, right from self-praise to her 10 Ka Dum appearance with Salman Khan to her Yoga to Farah. Mallika describes herself as a Vegan, which means someone who is not just vegetarian but also does not have milk or milk products. The actress went on Salman’s Dus Ka Dum over the weekend and says he asked her why she was single and her reply was - “Hmmmm, good question!” Presently, there are only 578 people interested in Mallika’s twitter feed.

Here are a few messages that Mallika has been posting on her twitter site –

Saif to promote Love Aaj Kal in ICC T20 World Cup

Saif Ali Khan is all set to promote his debut film as a producer, Love Aaj Kal at the coming ICC world Twenty 20 2009 cricket tournament. The film, directed by Jab We Met fame Imtiaz Ali stars Saif alongside Deepika Padukone. The cricket tournament is slated to begin from 5 June and will culminate on 21 June with the finals.

Our sources reveal that the lead pair of the film, Saif and Deepika will be travelling to England, where the tournament will be held and Saif will also be sharing the commentary box with Harsha Bhogle.

Love Aaj Kal is co-produced by Eros International and has been held up from being releasing due to the on-going strike spurred by the tussle between Hindi film producers and multiplexes. Love Aaj Kal’s tie-up with T20 World Cup will set the ball rolling in terms of promotions of movies that are slated to hit screens.

If the strike ends soon, the film is likely to release by June end.

Biren Ghose executive director of Eros International states “Basically we see that the cricket tournament if a great platform to promote our film following our last win at the World Cup. Love Aaj Kal is one our biggest movies and we wanted to mount it on a large platform. We are co-producers with Saif’s Illuminati films and we also announced the title of the film recently. Since there is tremendous cache with Bollywood and sports we decided to tie up with ESPN to promote our film at the T-20 world cup. We will be unveiling the look of the film at the World Cup.”

Finally strike to over soon?

On Wednesday May 27th night Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan attended the Producers Guild meeting along with the core members of the guild at Taj Lands End at Bandra Bandstand, Mumbai. Post the meeting, producer Mukesh Bhatt seems to have hinted at the strike getting over soon. The prolific producer has reportedly said, “You will get good news in two days”.

The meeting began around nine pm and went on for over three hours. The meeting saw in attendance Yash Chopra, the Bhatt brothers – Mukesh and Mahesh, Eros’s Sunil Lulla, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, BIG Pictures’ Amit Khanna and representatives of other top production houses. Our source present at the meeting revealed, Shah Rukh was more involved this time and attentively listened to BIG’s Amit Khanna who was explaining him the latest developments. Aamir was quieter and chipped in his bit in regular intervals. As soon as the meeting ended Aamir left before Shah Rukh Khan and avoided getting clicked together with the King Khan by present photographers at the venue.

There is a crucial meeting scheduled now either tonight or tomorrow between the producer’s guild core members and the seven multiplex owners. With Vashu Bhagnani also stating few days back that 9 out 10 issues have been resolved between the warring parties, a solution seems more likely through this meeting. If this happens then from Friday 5th June one can see big releases beginning in multiplexes all over the country with Vashu Bhagnani’s Kal Kissne Dekha being the first one.

Why is Movie Called Kaminey Vishal Bhardwaj on Facebook

Director-cum-music composer Vishal Bhardwaj is the latest director to join a social networking site to promote his film. Vishal has joined Facebook, adding to the ranks of his Kaminey actors Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, among many other top Bollywood actors and stars.

He has begun by talking about his eagerly awaited next, Kaminey. Getting straight to the point about the unusual and attention-grabbing title of the film, he says, "My intention was not to get gimmicky with the title. Since everyone's mean in the film, it was apt. Some are lovable Kaminey and some are obnoxious, but all are running high on lust and desire. Everybody was against me using this title, but when I bounced it off Gulzar Saab, he loved it!"

If people are speculating about the movie all confused about it which genre it belongs to, Vishal clears the doubts stating, Kaminey falls in the caper genre. He says, "Kaminey is a caper and falls in a genre never been explored before in India properly. Initially, I had thought it would be easy to write and make, but it turned out to be tough to write and even tougher to make."

About the characters in the film, the Omkara maker says, "The film has a wide array of characters, who all have equal intensity, and yet, there is no time to establish them. One has to catch them in the flow of the story and yet make them memorable. Exploring such a territory and then topping it up with some Bollywood masala and romance has been rigorous and unsympathetic."

Kareena and Lara take just a minute to say yes to Jackky

Even though Kareena Kapoor is a super star and Lara Dutta is certainly looking good to be one, especially in her current innings when she has numerous exciting projects up her sleeves, it didn’t require any persuading whatsoever to support Jackky Bhagnani for his debut venture KAL KISSNE DEKHA. Ready to lend a helping hand and ensuring that Jackky gains enough mileage due to their presence, both women consented immediately when Vashu Bhagnani approached them to perform in the country wide tour that the team of KAL KISSNE DEKHA has embarked upon.

“For both Kareena and Lara, Jackky is like a ‘ghar ka bachcha’”, says Vashu who is continuing to market and promote his film aggressively in spite of yet another move in the film’s release date, “Kareena has worked with me in one of her biggest hits ever, MUJHE KUCH KEHNA HAI as well as JEENA SIRF MERRE LIYE. With her sister Karisma too I have made COOLIE NO. 1, HERO NO. 1 and BIWI NO. 1. Somewhere down the line we have continued to share great relationship with each other, both personally as well as professionally. This is the reason why when I approached her to help in promoting Jackky and his film, she was game for it.”

How about Lara Dutta? Was she cool as well in the very first go?
“Absolutely yes”, says Vashu in a proud tone, “Even though Lara has worked with me in only one film [soon to be released DO KNOT DISTURB], we have known each other for 8-9 years. There was no hanky panky whatsoever. She just asked me when and where is she required to be present. That’s the best part of this industry. There is such emotional bonding between people in spite of all the talks about professional rivalries and back biting. In the last few weeks, the way Kareena and Lara have lend me support, I have further gone on to realise that we folks are indeed one big family and the ties that are seen in Bollywood can’t be evidenced elsewhere.”

Adds Jackky, “I have known Lara and Kareena for so long but them supporting me for the promotion of my debut film has been an extraordinary affair. Frankly, I wasn’t too sure how it all would turn out but dad always has belief in the people he works with. He was confident that no one would turn him away. Thankfully, this is what happened and both the ladies were sporty enough to accompany me for the tours. I can never ever forget what they have done for me.”

Meanwhile there continues to be uncertainty around the release of the movie after it was announced at the last minute that Vivek Sharma directed KAL KISSNE DEKHA won’t eventually make it for the 29th May release. With the current stand off between producers and multiplexes failing to see any resolution, it is indeed a ‘kal kissne dekha’ moment for all involved with the movie.

Gayatri Patel: Bollywood’s new import from America!

Since time immemorial, Bollywood has had icons known for their dance and styles. Be it Neetu Singh, Vaijayanti Mala, Padmini, Helen, Waheeda Rehman, Asha Parekh, Hema Malini, Madhuri Dixit, Karisma Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty or Urmila Matondkar, we’ve idolised their dance. But it’s been quite a few years now, the industry has seen a new dancing sensation.

As if to fill in the void and rock the floor, here comes US-born-and-bred Gayatri Patel, all set to storm Bollywood with her debut movie ‘Let’s Dance’ releasing on June 19. The film has the girl playing a simple but determined dance teacher, who on her path to fame, changes course, to motivate a group of underprivileged kids.

This petite dancing tornado aims to make everyone groove to her moves. She can, as she is no novice to the world of dance. Gayatri is trained in Kathak and is also a pro at Yoga. A lethal combination this, it helps her attempt the most daring dance steps, breath-taking whirls and swirls and some awesome splits.

“I could have very well been a doctor like my father, rather than an actress, had I not started performing on stage at the age of eight,” she reveals.

At the tender age of seven, Gayatri went to a local Indian dance competition in Dothan, Alabama and decided that she was going win the trophy the coming year. She did win the next year and the year after that and the year after that, till they stopped the competition as she had none. Now that’s something!

While in the United States, the spunky girl graduated from high-school and went on to study at the acclaimed Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Here, she also won the ‘Miss India Georgia’ title and later emerged the first runner-up at ‘Miss India USA’.

“Around this time, I realized that I loved theatre, dance and acting, more than studying science,” she quips. Finally, her family decided she shift base to Mumbai to pursue acting. Reaching here, Gayatri spent time taking tips from theatre top-guns Satyadev Dubey and Makrand Deshpande, did an acting workshop with Veena Mehta and played the role of Ophelia in Neeraj Kabir’s play ‘Hamlet’. She also did three music videos for Venus opposite Inder Kumar and Jugal Hansraj, till one day, National Award winning editor Aarif Sheikh decided to launch her as the lead in his directorial debut ‘Let’s Dance’.

Having music by Vipin Mishra and another National Award winner Tarali Sharma, her movie’s songs have been choreographed by none other than Longinus Fernandes (of “Jai Ho”-‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and “Pappu Can’t Dance Saala”-‘Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na’ fame), Rajiv Goswami (of ‘Veer-Zaara’ and ‘Dhoom’ fame), Pappu-Malu (of ‘Saawariya’ fame) and the evergreen Saroj Khan.

Produced by Dr Arvind Patel, the film co-stars Ajay Chaudhary, Aqib Afzaal, Sugandha Garg, Asif Basra, Abhaas Yadav, Nikuunj Padaya, Paras Arora and Anjan Srivastav. “I’ve done jazz, hip-hop, filmy, Kathak and Natwari dancing in the film,” informs Gayatri.

So here she is, urging one and all to don their dancing shoes. Now let’s see, if ‘Let’s Dance’ helps Bollywood find its new groove.

Tushar Kapoor miffed with Comedy Circus

While Tusshar Kapoor might be famous for his comedies, this is one time he ain’t laughing Tusshar is very upset with a show called Comedy Circus. The show had made a spoof on Jeetendra imitating his Jumping Jack nickname and also his trademark white shoes. Tusshar says that the spoof had characters that imitated the mannerisms of both Ekta as well as him.

Tusshar revealed that the family was prompted to send a legal notice to the as they thought that they were ridiculed in it. The actor adds that he was also invited to be a guest on it but he turned them down after he saw the episode and felt that the serial had crossed the line in the name of harmless fun.

Tusshar says, “It is true that we had to send them a legal notice because we thought that what was done on the show was not right.

There were actors who presented skits that had characters which spoofed my dad, my sister and me. You can make fun but such coarse fun is not done. It was like an attack on my entire family and I was shocked to see the reaction of the judges who are also incidentally from the same fraternity. They were laughing their guts out instead of telling them that a line needs to be drawn for everything.”

He adds, “I was even asked by the comedy show to be a guest on it for some finale episode but I had to turn them down as I could not participate in something that attacked my family. We were very offended.”

Vipul D. Shah of Optimystix said, “Ekta had called us and the matter has been sorted out.”

Bipasha Basu The Bengali connection

Sudipto Chattopadhyaya the director of Sanjay Gupta’s “Pankh” has really broken the shackles and gone ahead and made a bold movie. It’s a very emotional and touching movie; all the actors have put in lot of efforts for the movie.

Both Sudipto and Bipasha are Bengali’s and shared a great rapport on the sets. Both of them used to converse in Bengali on the sets leaving everyone confused about what they spoke. They shared a very good raport and friendship that Sudipto even bought Bangla food for Bipasha from home during the shoot. Both of them used to enjoy Bangla food and enjoyed conversing in Bengali.

Big B’s magnificent king size suite at Macao during IIFA 2009

Amitabh Bachchan is the brand ambassador of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards and therefore well deservedly he is always allotted the best suite in the hotel that hosts the celebrity guests of the event. It is now learnt that this year it is to be no exception either.

The IIFA Awards this year are being hosted by The Venetian, Macao and just like its sister property The Venetian in Las Vegas, The Venetian Macao is also a Renaissance Venice-themed property featuring famous landmarks from Venice with over 3000 suites. The best of them all has been specially kept reserved for Mr. and Mrs. Amitabh Bachchan. It is on the seventh floor having its own private swimming pool, patio and lawn. Reportedly the suite contains three master bedrooms with each bedroom having its own steam, sauna, exercise and massage room. Interestingly, the bathroom is entirely operated by gadgets. There is a switch that ensures that the collapsible pot is opened. Then the second switch washes you after your use while the third one dries you up. And funnily, the last switch powders your backside.

When Big B made his visit to Macao earlier this month for a promotional activity, he stayed at that very same suite. He was mightily impressed by the luxurious facilities it offer him but at the same time he was overheard saying that, “It needs a golf buggy to take me from the bedroom to the bathroom. It is really far.”

Himesh Reshammiya’s Kajraare to be a Diwali release

Himesh Reshammiya’s third film as an actor Kajraare, a T-Series’ production is all set to be a Diwali release. Directed by actress Pooja Bhatt the film stars opposite Himesh, Pakistani actress Mona Laizza apart from Amrita Singh and Gulshan Grover. The release date for the film is scheduled as October 16th. But on the same day two more biggies are slated for release, thats Hrithik Roshan - Barbara Mori - Kangana Ranaut starrer Kites and Ajay Devgan’s home production All The Best staring Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Bipasha Basu, Mugdha Godse along with Ajay himself.

Kajraare is supposedly, a modernised remake of Mahesh Bhatt’s Pooja Bhatt-Sanjay Dutt starrer Sadak. But this move to release it on Diwali day seems no less than a hara-kiri claims trade pundits. Himesh began his acting career with a bang with a musical hit like Aap Ka Surroor but his next release, the Karz remake titled Karzzzz was a big turkey at the ticket window. His Kajraare was to release much earlier but reportedly, the on going recession took toll on it and the schedules kept getting pushed ahead. Now as its nearing completion, the makers are planning for a Diwali release. But with big mega budget oppositions like Kites and All The Best, we just hope the makers give the release date a rethink or else Himesh might have to work harder to prove himself yet again as an actor.

Aishwarya Rai to Perform at IIFA 2009

You heard this here first. Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan Will be dancing at the 10th IIFA awards to be held in Macau from June 11.

Sonam Kapoor is all set to make her stage debut at IIFA this year. Aishwarya Rai too has been confirmed and so has Kareena Kapoor.

The show will be hosted by Riteish Deshmukh, Lara Dutta and Boman Irani.

But one of the highlights each year, the movie premier, has been done away with.

Explains IIFA director Sabbas Joseph, “It can’t be helped. The movie premiere had to be cancelled this year because of the ongoing strike of new releases in Bollywood. two big films were ready to be premiered at IIFA this year. I shall refrain from mentioning their names. But the imbroglio did away with the premiere.”

As a substitute IIFA this year has the world-famous Cirque de Soleil performing for the audience. “We believe audiences won’t get a chance to miss the world premiere once they see the Cirque de Soleil performing.”

Why Macau?
Says Sabbas,“Because we feel it’s the Las Vegas of the East. In this the tenth year of IIFA’s existence we wanted either the US or China to be our venue. We chose China because we feel it could be a gateway for Bollywood to the West. We also hope to end the deadlock between India and China over the exchange of cinema. We haven’t come away from one venue without opening up doors for Bollywood. We’re confident this would be the case in China.”

Music Launch of Zor laga ke haiyya

The Music launch of Mithun da starrer film Zor laga ke haiyya happened in not so happening style. Music released in the presence of half of the cast. Mithun da did the honours and bachcha party joined him along with producer, director, writer and music director of the film.

Other cast of the film which includes Mahesh Manjrekar, Riya Sen, Sachin Khedekar, Raj Zutsi, Seema Biswas and Gulshan Grover did not turn up for the event. It was a music release event but none of the singer was heard even humming the songs on stage during release.

AVs that were played did hint us that Mithun da will be seen in his disco day’s avatar in promotional video. Peppy number and Mithun da in his classic form will definitely win audiences heart. His bachcha party is also tapping their feet along with him in the song video. However he is a beggar in the film who along with kids battles to save a tree from money hungry builder. This is an infortainment film; viewers will not only enjoy watching the film as well as take home a message to save the earth.

Beta Mimoh also came to promote his father’s movie or other way round.

Kangna Denies Break -up with Adhyan Suman

Stories about the breakup with Kangana Ranaut have Adhyanan Suman going red with anger and indignation.

Some suggest it’s all a publicity gimmick to support the Bhatts’ on-release film Jashn which stars Adhayayan and Shahana.

But Mahesh Bhatt scoffs at the very idea. “I find the idea that Vishesh Films started the rumours amusing. Because the move would be counter-productive to our film. Adhyayan and Shahana play brother and sister in Jashn. And since it’s not about incest how would the link-up help our film?”

Fumes Adhyayan “These rumours seem to be centered on Jashn. Earlier I was linked with Anjana Sukhani and now Shahana who’s a pal.I don’t know whose idea of good publicity for Jashn this is. But it’s digusting. Shahana is a pal. There’s nothing more to our friendship. I’ve a girlfriend. Kangana is very beautiful in her heart, and physically. I am not the kind of guy who has affairs on the side.” So where do these rumours come from?

“Search me!” shrugs Adhyayan. “I’d never blame the Bhatts. Mahesh Bhatt Saab is like a father. He has taught me so much.” But the young actor does find it strange that rumours regarding Kangana and him floated during the release of the Bhatts’ Raaz 2 earlier, and now when Jashn is around the corner.

He also admits it’s true that Shahana was ‘banned’ by the co-directors Raksha Mistry and Hasnain Hyderbadwala from the sets of Jashn although she plays a pivotal part in the film. Says Adhyayan, “I protested on her behalf. You can’t do this to her when she’s the film’s female lead. Bhatt Saab had to intervene to allow Shahana to come on the sets as and when she liked.”

Mugdha Godse talks about her ‘All The Best’ director

Mugdha Godse is smiling away day in and night out in spite of her injury. Reason? Due to her physical condition which requires her to take ample care of her neck on a 24X7 basis, she is being pampered silly on the sets of ‘All The Best’. So whether it is director Rohit Shetty or her co-star Ajay Devgan or the other members from cast or crew, Mugdha is being treated with utmost care on the sets of the film for which shooting is currently in progress at Goa.

“Rohit is extremely considerate about my physical state and is making sure that I don’t have any issues during shooting for ‘All The Best’. Not that I have any reason to complain in any case but still Rohit keeps asking me if I am comfortable shooting for the film”, remembers Mugdha who is now back in Mumbai to shoot for Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Jail’ which is currently nearing completion.

She can’t get the glee off her face as she recollects the royal treatment that is being meted upon her.

“I guess the injury is a blessing in disguise”, winks Mugdha, “Everyone is being so sweet and nice to me. Ajay (Devgan) especially arranged for a doctor for me while the choreographer too asks me twice if I would be comfortable doing a particular step. I am enjoying all the attention though on a serious note, I sometimes feel bad that because of me, everyone is so worried. I would just want things to be normal.”

Tell her that on the sets of ‘Jail’ she is more of ‘ghar hi heroine’ (as she has worked with her mentor Madhur Bhandarkar before in ‘Fashion’) while for Rohit Shetty’s ‘All The Best’ she is a ‘mehmaan’ due to which is getting that special attention and she chooses to merely smile away without making a comment.

While she is still recovering from the injury that she got due to a road accident that she met with a few weeks back, Mugdha has been advised to wear some precious stones around her arm. Apparently, these stones are medically proven to aid in faster healing process and in general are good for one’s physical being.

“Even Ajay and Kajol wear these stones”, tells Mugdha, “I took their advise and started wearing them myself. My other medication is in progress in any case and I should be able to get 100% well soon.”

Incidentally, Mugdha is already staring at a double whammy ahead since both ‘Jail’ as well as ‘All The Best’ are slated to arrive during the same time period. While ‘All The Best’ has already pencilled in 16th October as it’s release date, Madhur Bhandarkar too has gone on record to state that ‘Jail’ would most likely arrive in either September or October.

Now it has to be seen if Mugdha would enjoy similar pampering at the box office in case ‘Jail’ ends up clashing with ‘All The Best’.
